SciFi and Fantasy Art: Imyae

6th May 2006 age 17

This piece has been on the go for about 5 months - although I have had long, long breaks in between times working on it. Altogether it probably took about 40 hours, like most of my paintings. I find it funny that I started it when I was 16 and have finally finished it now I'm 17! The image went through a great many changes - if you'd like to see a bit of the process of the drawing (and all my horrid mistakes) you can have a look here:

The character in this digital painting belongs to my best friend (the picture was supposed to be a Christmas present!) and is called Imyae; she's half human, half dryad, and ALL goddess! She's meant to be very pretty and she's also very... uh... fond of men. Hopefully her personality shines through a little in my representation of her (and I really hope she looks as beautiful as she's meant to - I was worried about not getting her character right. Oh well, I tried). She adds a much needed touch of femininity to my gallery!

Edit: Just noticed the crease at the back of her knee is not well defined. Will update with newer version with this fixed v. soon indeed. ;)

She is absolutely breath-taking. What an amazing piece. And is she all alone in the snow?

:-) Emily 'Foxbane' Oldroyd replies: "Even when she's all alone, she usually manages to attract some attention at some point. 12 Thanks!"

Amazle
to me she has a real , and also just a slight wraith like look
its wonderful , she has the effect of being fleeting
and may vanish into twigs , icicles and moss when you look again ,
like she was a trick of the light and shapes ,
her face and her freckly skin are amazing
she is so beautiful , and the winter trees too
well done , fabulous work

:-) Emily 'Foxbane' Oldroyd replies: "That was a really delightful comment to read, I'm happy that she induced that feeling in you. =) She's certainly the sort of character to just vanish and watch you from the trees when you can't see her. Thanks!"

I LOVE your art style! I adore it! It’s so classical, but in a way, with the lines and the lighting, a style all its own! You are very talented. Keep it up!

:-) Emily 'Foxbane' Oldroyd replies: "One of the nicest comments I’ve received recently 1 Thank you very much"

Beautiful! You said something about Imyae being fond of men. I almost blush when she looks at me that way XD Good work!
I’m quite jealous, the hair is amazing good, I really want to be able to draw such nice hair =(

:-) Emily 'Foxbane' Oldroyd replies: "Haha, wow! What a great comment - thank you! As for hair - if you’re painting digitally (or with acrylic paint or any other opaque paint) - start with the darkest colour and paint thickly, and work lighter and lighter and with thinner and thinner strands. That’s simplifying it a lot but that’s he basic idea of what I do."
